Orlando Eye Doctor Robyn Glass, O.D.“The eye is the gateway to the health of the whole body”

A first patient visit with Dr. Glass (ages 6 and up) may be a more thorough eye examination than one would expect. The personal care for the well-being of her patients is something that goes back many years through her upbringing.

Dr. Glass was born in a Military hospital in Eglin, Florida. She spent her early childhood years in the area before moving with her family Omaha, Nebraska where her father (a Military veteran) served in the United States Air Force. After his leaving the military, her family moved to Orlando and has been there since. Little did she know, a science project in the sixth grade would be the springboard to her ultimate career in eye care.

“I decided early on that the eye was incredibly fascinating,” recalls Dr. Glass. “With so many intricacies, this complex organ is not something that can be examined quickly. I learned there are so many different manifestations of diseases that can expose themselves within the eye and body if you take the time to look closely, and that’s what I do. As an example, we can actually detect hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, and even cancer in one of our eye exams which is remarkable.”

She started her first job as an Apprentice Optician with Luxottica and spent several years doing just about anything in the eye care arena at various optical and optometric practices preparing her for her ultimate goal of being a doctor.

After receiving her Bachelors Degree in Biology at the University of Central Florida, she enrolled at the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico, School of Optometry in Bayamon. Dr. Glass graduated in 2016 and soon started at Magruder Eye Institute while finishing her licensing requirements. Today, as a Doctor of Optometry, she sees patients at our Apopka location.

Dr. Glass is a well-traveled person, however, her priorities are her family, church, and, of course, her dedication to her patients. She always keeps in touch with her family through routine get-togethers and her lifelong membership with Seventh Day Adventist Church.

“I grew up in the church,” explains Dr. Glass. “Having attended Seventh Day Adventist schools throughout elementary and high school, it is my life. I have so many important relationships through the church. It’s a big part of who I am.” She also is appreciative of the abilities she believes God has helped her attain to be able to help make people’s lives better through sight.

Robyn Glass, O.D. performing an eye examDr. Glass also gained an incredible amount of experience in diagnosing and treating patients for Glaucoma, Cataracts, Diabetic Retinopathy, and more during her various internships which included working at Veterans Affairs. She gained invaluable experience in working not only with fellow Optometrists, but also Ophthalmologists and Retina Specialists for patients suffering from all eye diseases.

“I learned the importance of the relationship with co-managing and fellow doctors,” Dr. Glass recalls. “With fellow doctors, we were able to see things we hadn’t seen before and, as a team, worked out better solutions. With the eye surgeons and retina specialists like we have here at Magruder Eye Institute, we have learned how important it is to communicate the nuances of individual patients and how we can better treat them and offer the best experience possible.”
